It&#8217;s hot in commercial kitchens every day. People fry, deep-fry and grill. This produces fat, oil and high temperatures. <strong>This is precisely why<\/strong> there are clear rules. <strong>And this is precisely why<\/strong> metal mesh filters are prohibited in commercial kitchens.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nevertheless,<\/strong> you still see them. <strong>And very often.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>Metal mesh filters in commercial kitchens &#8211; a dangerous part of everyday life<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to large shopping malls. <strong>Or<\/strong> go to food courts. <strong>Or<\/strong> take a look in open kitchens. <strong>Then<\/strong>, unfortunately, you will see it again and again:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Kitchen hoods with knitted metal filters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aluminum mesh filter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Filters as we know them from private kitchens<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>But this is where the problem begins<\/strong>, because <strong>metal mesh filters in commercial kitchens are a fire hazard and prohibited!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>Why metal mesh filters are prohibited in commercial kitchens<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Knitted metal filters store grease and oil.  <strong>And that is exactly what must not happen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fat is highly flammable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oil burns very quickly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Knitted filters promote fire<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So if a fire breaks out<\/strong>, these filters <strong>cannot stop<\/strong> the flames. <strong>On the contrary:<\/strong> they let the fire through. <strong>And they also ex<\/strong> acerbate the fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>The greatest danger: fire in the ventilation duct<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Kitchen hoods are almost always connected to ventilation ducts. <strong>These ducts lead<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>from the kitchen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>through several floors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>up to the roof<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If<\/strong> a fire starts in the kitchen <strong>and<\/strong> there is no effective flame protection <strong>,<\/strong> the worst can happen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u27a1\ufe0f <strong>The fire spreads through the ventilation duct throughout the building.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This is precisely why<\/strong> the right kitchen filter is so important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">DIN EN 16282 &#8211; clear rules without leeway<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The rules are not new.  <strong>And they are clear.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Formerly: DIN 18869<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>today: DIN EN 16282<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>additionally: requirements of the employers&#8217; liability insurance associations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Everyone says the same thing:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>Knitted metal filters that store fat or oil are prohibited in commercial kitchens.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Type A flame protection filters<\/strong> are indispensable when it comes to the safe operation of kitchen exhaust air systems. This is because they prevent flames from spreading uncontrollably through the exhaust air system. They also retain grease particles so that no dangerous deposits can form inside the system.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, <strong>type B filters<\/strong> are not certified and are therefore unsafe. They do not provide effective protection against flame penetration and therefore increase the risk of fire. This is why the standard clearly requires the use of tested flame-retardant filters.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our <strong>X-CYCLONE flame-retardant filters<\/strong> meet the requirements of DIN EN 16282-6 and therefore set standards in terms of safety. At the same time, they are designed in such a way that they separate grease efficiently and the separated grease is discharged into collection channels. This reduces the fire load in the entire system.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-download-the-epaper-on-the-x-cyclone-flame-protection-filter-here\">Download the ePaper on the X-CYCLONE flame protection filter here:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-medium\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reven.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/X-CYCLONE-high-performance-separator.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"282\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reven.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/PDF-Guide-zur-X-CYCLONE-Technologie-282x400.jpg\" alt=\"Download PDF Guide to X-CYCLONE technology\" class=\"wp-image-20509\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Download PDF Guide to X-CYCLONE technology<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>What DIN EN 16282 clearly prohibits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The standard prohibits:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Aluminum knitted filter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Knitted metal filter with fat storage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Filters without tested flame protection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>they do not stop flames<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>they do not prevent fires<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>they greatly increase the risk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>Combination separator &#8211; only under clear conditions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, there are combination separators, i.e. elements that are half filter and half separator. <strong>But<\/strong> that doesn&#8217;t mean that everything is allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Because they are <strong>only<\/strong> permitted if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u27a1\ufe0f <strong>no grease or oil is stored in the filter.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As soon as<\/strong> grease or oil can remain in the filter, <strong>then apply<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udeab <strong>Prohibited in commercial kitchens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Privately permitted &#8211; commercially prohibited<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are often misunderstandings here. <strong>That is why<\/strong> clarity is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>private: allowed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>commercial: prohibited<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>is cooked longer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>higher temperatures occur<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>more people are at risk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>The reality in Germany<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Although<\/strong> the rules are clear, you can still see:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Department stores<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kiosks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restaurants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hotels<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>with kitchen hoods that <strong>do not comply with the rules<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This is not an isolated case.<\/strong> <strong>And that is no small problem.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>Metal mesh filter commercial kitchen &#8211; a clear omission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What you see here is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Too little information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Too little control<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Too little sense of responsibility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And that is precisely what is dangerous.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>The clear stance of REVEN GmbH<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We say it openly.  <strong>And we say it clearly:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u26a0\ufe0f <strong>Knitted metal filters in commercial kitchens are prohibited and a fire hazard.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Because<\/strong> fire protection is not an extra.
